Yucca thompsoniana Pecos co., TX 4500ft
Yucca thompsoniana is a smaller tree forming yucca from Texas and Mexico. Our plants came from (Alplains 78375.17) Pecos Co., TX, 4500ft. We have had the Thompson Yucca for 20 years and have never had issues in our winter taking down to -22F with no issues. These have seen to be more cold hardy than Y. rostrata or Y. rigida for us anyway. Available plants are 3 year old plants that are a very limited quantity growing in 1 gallon containers.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
