Pterocactus tuberosus Tupungato, Argentea 4100ft
Pterocactus tuberosa is a small cactus from the Mendoza province in Argentea. This plant survives harsh environments by having a large underground tuberous root system. The tuber can get 2ft wide and deep. I have a 20 year old plant that fills a 5 gallon container. The plants for sale are rooted cuttings from Tupungato, Argentea 4100ft. I only have 1 clone from this location but the plants have survived 0F without die back so I am guessing this clone to take alot more cold. In summer this small cryptic species will reward you with some yellow almost fake looking flowers. These plants want good drainage but will still handle a good amount of moisture in the warm months.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5/6/7 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
