Escobaria vivipara ssp. desertii/rosea 'Potosi Pass'
Escobaria vivipara ssp. desertii/rosea 'Potosi Pass' is a mountain pass in the Spring Mountains of Southern Nevada. The seed was collected in an area where the 2 subspecies come together. You get everything from yellows, peaches, browns, pinks and occasionally white flowers at this location. This area is Pinon-Juniper woodlands and gets around 12-15" of precipitation year round, including snow. These are a little more touchy when it comes to water, this in comparison to regular escobaria vivipara. These plants have taken -17F with no trouble and really show they are cold hardy like their relatives. Plants are 50 cent sized or larger.
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5/6/7 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
