Agave lechuguilla Roswell, NM 5000ft
Agave lechuguilla is probably in the top 5 for most cold hardy species of agave. Plants have taken -22F and -10s many times in my colorado garden. They thrive and make nice clumps that occasionaly bloom, but offsets replace your flowering plant. A very overlooked agave is a beautiful plant in the garden. It definately lives up to its wicked name of 'Shindagger'. Plants can be one of the most colorful species and can rival any of the souther species of century plant.
Seed of these plants came from the furthest north location I could find, which is just north of Roswell, NM on a Limestone ridge. Thes plants can have red, black and white teeth with lots of skin striations. Probably one of the most diverse locations.
We share our experiences to help with your own trials of cold hardiness. We do not guarantee these plants in any garden or zone. Every garden is different and everyones growing conditions are different. Please try plants at your own risk, I do not want to be misleading to anyone.
