Agave gentryi Conception del oro 3000m

Agave gentryi from Conception del oro at 3000 meters. Seed is from an old Mesa Garden collection that was originally Agave macroculmis then atrovirens. But after seeing the plant bloom they fit best under Agave gentryi. I have never had these below 5F at which they were fine. The story goes that the seeds were collected in July at 3000 meters (9843 ft) and the collectors water froze over night while camping. Not sure how true this is but an interesting story. Agave gentryi is found in opening and amongst pine forest in cool high elevation mountains. These have been grown under 30% shade their entire lives and seem just fine. These plants do enjoy water but also like drying out. This would be a plant to try in the garden or keep in a pot for awhile. These plants seem to grow very slow.
 
I do not guarantee these in a zone 5/6/7 because everyones growing conditions are different but this would be a good trial plant to grow in your cold outdoor garden. Try to plant outdoor 90 days before 1st hard freeze.
